Tunisian president calls for revitalising Arab Maghreb Union establishments
Tunisia, Politics, 10/13/1999

Tunisian President Zein al-Abidin Ben Ali has called for the revitalization of the establishments of the Arab Maghreb Union, considering it as being a main element and great support in building the Arab states, unifying its ranks and improving its conditions.

In a statement to the Saudi daily Okaz published on Tuesday, President Bin Ali said, "We have worked calmly and firmly to eliminate obstacles that hit the work progress of the federation. Commending steps so far achieved in the process of the federation, we are looking forward to meet with our brothers, leaders of the Maghreb states, in the coming summit before the end of this year."

The Tunisian president expressed his hope that the forthcoming Maghreb summit would avail the chance to reactivate work of the Maghreb union under regional and international transformations so it will be on equal footing in dealing with all international groupings that have relations with the Arab region.
