On the flow of water from Turkey to Syria
Syria-Turkey, Politics, 10/13/1999

The Kuwaiti daily al-Qabas said on Tuesday that waters of the Euphrates river in Syria have been much increased from the usual average level after Turkey built several dams on the Turkish part of the river.

The paper added that the Turkish government did not announce the surplus amounts of water.

The Kuwaiti daily questioned whether the current flow of water in such density has a relevance to the decision taken by Turkey to create a sort of balance with its Arab neighbors, or whether this is attributed to the involvement of the Turkish government in rebuilding areas destroyed by the earthquake which hit the southwestern parts of Turkey, and thereby the water flow in the Euphrates goes uncontrolled.
