Restrictions lifted on Egyptian Lawyers Union's activities
Egypt, Politics, 10/12/1999
The highest court in Egypt lifted restrictions which was imposed on the activity of the Egyptian Lawyers Union because the Islamists were dominating it, and anorder court decision issued in January 1996 when members of Muslim Brotherhood group who were accused of boosting the violence of the Islamic Group dominated the union's council.
Naser Ameen, the manager of the Arab Center for the Independence of the Judiciary, said, "This judgement is a new dilemma for the lawyers union's problem, because the real problem of the union is a political one that does (not only) concern judicial judgements, but a crisis that was created by the Egyptian government in the framework of a complete policy followed by the Egyptian government within the last 10 years in an attempt to chain all the institutions of the civil society in Egypt."
