Arab League for national reconciliation in Sudan
Sudan-Regional, Politics, 10/12/1999

The Arab League has announced that it is following closely and with great concern the national reconciliation efforts in Sudan.

Arab League Assistant Secretary General for Arab Affairs Ahmad Bin Hali said the Arab League strongly backs this national attitude to maintain the stability of Sudan, maintain its national unity and confront all foreign attempts aimed at undermining its regional security.

Bin Hali stressed that achieving national reconciliation in Sudan would end the rebel movement in southern Sudan, put an end to further human casualties and invest Sudan's huge resources toward achieving comprehensive development.

Bin Hali said that the Arab League has continuous contacts with officials in Sudan to follow up on reconciliation efforts.

On bombarding the Sudanese oil pipeline, Bin Hali said that resorting to these regretted acts would only result in destroying the national potential and economic gains which would be for the benefit of all Sudan's people.
