Lebanese Prime Minister Salim al-Hoss arrived today in Damascus for an official visit, during which he will preside over the Lebanese side to the meetings of the joint Syrian - Lebanese follow-up and coordination committee. The committee will hold its meetings on Monday and Tuesday under the chairmanship of the prime ministers of the two countries. Al-Hoss is accompanied by an official delegation including several Lebanese Cabinet ministers and technicians. Go

A World Bank delegation is to arrive in Egypt today to meet with Egyptian Prime Minister Atef Ebeid on the Egyptian and international economies, Shar Nasr, a spokeswoman for the bank in Cairo, said. Go

Egyptian Foreign Minister Amr Moussa discussed during his meeting yesterday with Moroccan Minister of Youth and Sports Ahmed Moussaoui, who is currently visiting Cairo, Morocco's candidacy to host the World Cup for soccer for the year 2006, Moussaoui said after the meeting. Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak formed a new ministerial committee for settlement affairs to consult his allies in the governmental coalition before taking his critical decisions regarding future of the settlements. Israeli sources said the committee took a decision concerning removing the illegal settlements, adding that Barak decided to remove the settlements that were considered illegal and that the decision was raised to him after disputes among the ministers regarding this matter. Greek President Konstandino Stephanopoulos is to pay a visit tomorrow to Iran, the first for a Greek president to Tehran. During the visit, the Greek president will be escorted by the foreign minister and minister of agriculture, in addition to a large economic delegation. Tehran radio said today tath the Greek president will meet with high-ranking officials in Iran, topped by President Mohammed Khatami, as discussions will focus on bilateral issues and means of developing relations between the two countries in different fields. The US Central Command said today that US and British jets attacked "three Iraqi military radar sites and an Iraqi military communications site near Al Kut and An Nasiriyah" in the southern Iraq "no-fly zone." It added that the strikes came "in response to recent incidents of Iraqi anti-aircraft artillery fire directed at coalition aircraft." Go

The Kuwaiti Ministry of the Interior has continued its campaign to eliminate drugs in Kuwaiti society. In a statement to the Kuwaiti daily al-Seyasah published on Saturday, the Kuwaiti interior ministry's secretary, Nasser Ahmad al-Othman, said the ministry will intensify its monitoring of drug dealers on all levels, regardless of their social positions in Kuwait. The paper added that so far some 30 kg of drugs was confiscated, and some 80 drug traders and dealers were arrested. Go
