Al-Sayegh to be tried according to Islamic Sharia
Saudi Arabia-USA, Politics, 10/11/1999

Saudi Defense Minister Prince Sultan Bin Abdul Aziz said on Sunday in al-Riyadh that the Saudi citizen Hani al-Sayegh suspected to be involved in the attack against a residential unit for US soldiers in Khobar will be tried according to the Sharia (Islamic law) when he is handed over to the Saudi authorities.

Responding to statements made by al-Sayegh's lawyers said they fear that their client will be exposed to torture in the kingdom, Prince Sultan said: "We reject these attempts which aim at planting seeds of doubts in the minds about the Saudi judicial system."

The London Based al-Sharq al-Awsat had expected the US authorities to evacuate the suspect to Saudi Arabia yesterday. It quoted US sources in Washington as saying he will be evacuated on board a military plane.
