Israel might buy Turkish water

The Anatolia news agency said, quoting Turkish and Israeli sources, that there are currently talks taking place on the possibility of Israel's emergency purchase of water from Turkey.

The agency added that if the Israeli authorities approve an emergency plan prepared by Israeli experts who held talks with Turkey side in September to transport 2,000 tonnes of waters of Manogat river by a fleet of ships to Askalan port in Israel, the transported water will be taken to a water desalinization station to be built especially for that purpose.

The agency added that Israeli Infrastructure Minister Eliyahu Suissa said the cost of transporting each square meter of the Turkish water to the water network in Israel is estimated at between 60 and 70 US cents.

The Turkish news agency continued that water-pumping installations on Turkey's Manogat river have a total capacity of a half million cubic meters of water per day, half of which is fresh.

It added that Israel wants to buy this amount and that this water can be transported in the long run to Israel by an undersea water pipeline installed to the Turkish part of Cyprus island and then to Israel.
