Israeli court dismisses case raised by Israeli belly dancer against Egyptian ambassador
Egypt-Israel, Judicial, 10/11/1999
Tel Aviv District Court on Sunday dropped the judicial case raised by Israeli belly dancer Shlomit Shalom against the Egyptian ambassador in Tel Aviv, Muhammad Bassiouni.
Israeli Army Radio said the court prevented the mass media from being briefed on the events of the case, but the court stressed that the matter pertains to an alleged attempt made by the ambassador to sexually harass the belly dancer.
The decision of the Israeli court came on the background of the diplomatic immunity ambassador Bassiouni enjoys.
The decision taken by the court said the belly dancer can, once again, take legal action against the ambassador to pay financial compensation after he ends his term of office as an ambassador for his country in Tel Aviv.
The Israeli belly dancer was suing ambassador Bassiouni for one million Israeli shekels under charges of trying to sexually harass her.
An earlier criminal case against the ambassador was dismissed due to lack of evidence.
