US documentary on Moroccan women
Morocco, Culture, 10/8/1999

US company "Black side" is shooting a documentary film on Moroccan women entitled "Hopes on the Horizon."

The 2-hour long documentary is an African chronicle on political, economic and socio-cultural events in six African countries.

The movie will try to break "Afro-pessimism which tends to see in Africa only crises, famine and helplessness in general," says Kango Lare-Lantone, commentator and coordinator of the movie team.

The aim is to depict Africans as masters of their destiny and their daily efforts to improve their life and that of their society.

In Morocco, the documentary deals with women issues, the emergence of a feminine and feminist movement, embodied in the independent women organizations. Several women-- associations members, university teachers, journalists, writers-- from Casablanca, Rabat, and other cities will be interviewed on the status of women in Morocco, their emancipation and their struggle.
