Prince Talal Bin Abdul Aziz calls for establishing strong Gulf army
Gulf, Politics, 10/8/1999

Prince Talal Bin Abdul Aziz, the head of the Arab Gulf program for supporting the United Nations development organizations said that the presence of foreign troops in the Gulf is due to the Iraqi government's aggression against Kuwait.

The foreign forces are present at the demand of the Gulf states, saying that if Iraq adhered to its intention at that time, Iraq may have continued its invasion to reach Oman.

In an opening interview, yesterday in Kuwait to discuss Gulf causes on the margin of the symposium on Kuwaiti women's political rights, Prince Talal criticized Iraq saying that it largely wastes money, and he asked the Gulf Cooperation Council states to form a call for a unified Gulf army with 100,000 soldiers.

It is worthy to mention that the Gulf council's six states that form the armed force "Island Shield" taking Saudi Arabia as its headquarters has the assignment of defending the Gulf area with financing from the member states.
