Egypt can join Maghreban union, says senate speaker Essaid
Morocco-Maghreb, Politics, 10/7/1999
Morocco, like Tunisia, is in favor of Egypt joining the Arab Maghreb Union, the speaker of the Moroccan chamber of advisors (upper chamber of the parliament), Mohamed Jalal Essaid, told the press at the end of a three-day visit to Tunis.
The move should be open to discussion, he said, recalling that Cairo has already applied for an observer status.
Essaid and members of the Moroccan legislative body met with cabinet members and peers to look into ways to further enhance cooperation ties between parliaments and the two states at large.
