Iraq blames Washington, London for delaying and obstructing contracts for agricultural equipment
Iraq, Politics, 10/7/1999

Iraq blamed the US administration and British government for delaying and obstructing contracts for agricultural equipment for handling the drought Iraq currently witnesses, said Iraqi Minister of Agriculture Abdul Ilah Hameed.

Hameed referred in a declaration today to the US and UK delegates in the sanctions committee deliberately delaying rectification of contracts Iraq has reached with foreign companies, saying that the ministry took many procedures to handle the effect of the drought (that Iraq has suffered), among which is coordination with the UN coordinator for humanitarian affairs in Iraq and representatives of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization.

Since the beginning of the current agricultural season, Iraq took many procedures to confront the drought conditions and prevent wasting water.
