Jordanian FM telephones Israeli counterpart on multilateral negotiations
Jordan-Israel, Politics, 10/7/1999
Israel Radio said on Wednesday that Jordanian Foreign Minister Abdul Illah al-Khatib made a telephone call to Israeli Foreign Minister David Levy during which talks dealt with resuming multilateral negotiations.
The radio report added that in this telephone call al-Khatib expressed his country's backing for resuming these negotiations as soon as possible.
Israel Radio, on the other hand, quoted the director general of the Israeli Foreign Ministry, Eitan Bin Tsour, as saying on Wednesday that several Arab states expressed their desire for resuming multilateral negotiations.
Bin Tsour considered the precondition set by Egypt to link resumption of these negotiations to resuming negotiations on the Syrian track as unjustified.
