Couple escapes making surgery for their cancer-infected baby
Lebanon-Germany, Local, 10/7/1999
A man and his wife who were expelled from Lebanon arrived in Ogesburg, Germany on Wednesday coming from Lebanon following several months they spent in hiding to avoid a surgical operation for their son who has cancer.
AFP quoted eyewitnesses as saying the police were waiting for Sven Marzki and his wife of Palestinian origin, Lamya, who are from the al-Naqishbandi sect (a Sufi sect), which prohibits performing any surgery on a man's body, at the airport of the German city of Ogesburg after they were expelled from Beirut earlier in the day.
Lebanese Attorney General Adnan Addoum responded on Tuesday to a "restoring back" request proposed by Germany. Addoum took the decision after the medical committee found that the child's life is endangered if he does not undergo the surgery.
Last April the public court in Ogesburg released an arrest warrant against the two parents for not giving help to a "threatened person" because they refused to allow their child to undergo the surgery.
