Syria celebrates 26th anniversary of October War

Celebrations continue today in all parts of Syria commemorating that 26th anniversary of the October War, which was launched by the Syrian and Egyptian armies against the Israeli forces.

Large mass rallies were held in different parts of Syria, and speeches were delivered commending the "glorious anniversary." A number of projects were inaugurated and foundation stones were laid for several vital projects all over the 14 Syrian provinces.

The Damascus branch of the Syria Baath party holds today a central rally at Damascus University auditorium to mark this occasion.

On Tuesday the Baath Party of the Damascus Interior security forces celebrated the occasion, on which one of the speakers said the "October liberation warthat defeated the myths of Israel's invulnerable army was a direct reaction to occupation and aggressions and a defense of just Arab causes."

Other similar celebrations were made by the commission of Schools of Martyrs Sons, the Syrian Revolution's Union, and various units of the Syrian and Palestinian armies.

Moreover, in a statement issued on this occasion, people's organizations in Syria released a statement commending the victories achieved in the October War which "removed pessimism and opened a new page in the history of the Arab - Israeli conflict."
