Jordanian authorities release four Muslim Brothers detainees
Jordan, Politics, 10/5/1999

The Jordanian security forces released four detainees from the Muslim Brothers group who were arrested at the beginning of September after they organized a demonstration in support of the Hamas movement in al-Baqaa camp for the Palestinian refugees.

This new Jordanian step comes in the context of news speaking about internal and external mediation to release the leaders of Hamas and to close the issue of the crisis that started almost one month earlier.

Jordan's King Abdullah II is expected to meet today with the chairman of the Higher Shiite Council in Lebanon, Sheikh Muhammad Mahdi Shamseddine, who is on a mediation visit concerning Hamas.

Meanwhile, well-informed sources in Amman said that Jordanian Prime Minister Abdul Raouf al-Rawabdeh will not accompany the Jordanian king in his visit to the US and that the official delegation will be confined to the chief of the royal court and Foreign Minister Abdul Illah al-Khatib, a matter which is considered by the said sources to indicate that the Hamas crisis still continues.
