Opposition leader warns of the risks that threaten Sudan
Sudan, Politics, 10/4/1999
Gazi Solieman, the head of the opposition Democratic Forces Front in Sudan, warned yesterday in a press conference held in Khartoum that, "Sudan is threatened by division," and he warned that the international community, especially civil rights organizations in the Western countries, incline toward the separation of the Sudanese south and north, because it considered the current civil war as an ethnic and religious war between the Moslems of the north and the inhabitants of the south.
Moreover, he said the only way to overcome these risks is the political settlement of the Sudanese problem and achieving national unity through a constitutional conference, in which all the democratic forces would participate and draft a democratic program for building a new Sudan.
He added that he will meet with US Envoy Harry Johnston when the latter visits Sudan to draft a view of the resolution which is represented in building multi - religious, ethnic, unified, new Sudan, saying, "Those who refuse to receive the U.S envoy don't want to solve the Sudanese problems."
