Islamic group condemns Israel's using Aqsa mosque picture on wine bottle
Regional, Religion, 10/4/1999
The Makkah-Based Islamic World League condemned on Saturday Israel for placing the picture of the Aqsa mosque on one of its liquor products and naming it "Jerusalem 2000."
It described such measures as "despicable and cheap" and an attempt to falsify history.
The league called in a statement on the international law, cultural, heritage and religious institutes to condemn the Israeli actions.
The League said that such measure was not only an aggression on one country but also the whole Islamic World.
He asserted that the Aqsa mosque enjoys a special place in the hearts of all Muslims, being the third holiest Islamic holy place.
The Islamic outrage followed a similar reaction towards Israel's attempts at Disney's Epcot theme park in Orlando, Florida, that depicts Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
The Arab league's threat to boycott the American Disney products, were behind the company's refusal to allow Israel to use "Jerusalem is Israel's eternal capital" as the name of its pavilion.
