Sanaa: Trial for Islamic extremists today
Yemen, Politics, 10/4/1999

The trial of a new group of Islamic extremists accused of participating in explosions in some Yemeni areas started today in Yemen.

Sources say the group being tried belongs to the prohibited Aden-Abyan Islamic Army, headed by Abu El-Hasan El-Mehdar, who was recently sentenced to death after being convicted with another group of killing tourists at the end of last year.

The southern governorte of Abyan witnesses the trial of the second group from the Aden-Abyan Islamic Army, as five suspects were presented before the court while two other suspects are being tried in absentia.

The general prosecution directed to the seven suspects charges of participating in foreign and armed forces and planning different explosions in Aden, Abyan and Sanaa governorates.

The accusation said these works targeted the country's security and economy.
