US Anglican church delegation for boosting relations with Syrian women

A meeting was held on Saturday evening between the delegation of the American Anglican Church led by Anne Jones, Deputy President of the American Anglican Women league. Currently visiting Syria and several women activists at the hall of the " Holy Cross" Church in Damascus.

The two sides exchanged views on coexistence among divine religions and the role played by women in having progress among societies and rapprochement among peoples.

The Syrian woman writer Siham Turjaman said women in Syria take part in building the society on equal footing with man and work for liberating the occupied Syrian Golan from the Israeli occupation.

Dr. Lina al-Homsi who is a teacher at the Islamic Sharia Faculty at Damascus University called women in the US and the World to work together for achieving justice and peace. She said: " let us put our hands together, Christians and Muslims to achieve happiness and just peace for humanity."

Mrs Jones said: " we are interested in peace and justice in the world. We come to this region for this cause. We are pleased to be in Syria so as to have the chance to understand closely her social and political activity."

For his part, head of the US Anglican Church Foreign relations committee Elein New-Bold expressed the readiness of the league to develop friendship relations with the Syrian women to serve the causes of justice, peace, women and the Islamic-Christian dialogue.

Rev. Victor Makari of Egyptian origin, who is the coordinator of the American, Anglican church relations, said that the relations between the church and the region have been good for 50 years. He expressed his church's readiness to develop friendship and cooperation relations with the Arab region according to the doctrines advocated both by Islam and Christianity.
