Iraqi minister of health warns of risky health conditions in Iraq
Iraq, Politics, 10/2/1999
Iraqi Minister of Health Medhat Mubarak warned of the dangerous health conditions in Iraq due to the increase in diseases and malnutrition because of the international sanctions and lack of financial specifications decided according to the note of understanding signed with the UN, saying it is only enough to meet 20% of Iraq's needs.
This comes at a time when an official source in the Iraqi trade ministry stated that delegates from the US and UK on the sanctions committee halted 15 new contracts ratified by Iraq in the understanding note with international companies from the fourth, fifth and the sixth stages of the oil-for-food agreement.
The contracts included communications units, electric generators, petroleum, medicine and movable stations.
