Sudan calls for sending UN fact-finding commission to al-Shifaa factory
Sudan, Politics, 10/2/1999
Sudanese Foreign Minister Mustafa Othman Ismael on Thursday night called on the UN to send a fact-finding commission to the al-Shifaa factory, destroyed by Washington under the pretext of producing components of chemical weapons.
In a statement before the UN General Assembly, the Sudanese minister said Washington's release of the assets of the owner of the factory proves that the factory had no connection with terrorism, therefore the justifications given by the US administration to strike the factory are baseless.
The Sudanese minister said the investigation made by US experts at the request of the owners of the factory found no evidence that chemical weapons were produced in the factory.
Ismael reiterated the call of the Sudanese government to reach a ceasefire with the rebels in the south and also pledged to provide new aid for the Sudanese who are suffering from war and starvation.
