Libya calls on the UN to lift sanctions imposed on it
Libya-UN, Politics, 10/2/1999

Libya has called for lifting the sanctions imposed on it, asserting that not lifting these sanctions undermines the credibility of the UN Security Council.

In a speech he read on Thursday night at the UN General Assembly, Libya's representative to the UN, Abu Zeid Dourdah, said the US tries to obstruct measures to final lifting of these sanctions, which the UN Security Council suspended after Libya agreed to hand over the two Libyans suspected of being involved in the Lockerbie incident.

He added that preventing the UN Security Council from abrogating and then lifting the sanctions imposed on Libya violates the credibility of the UN Security Council and its ability to abide by set obligations.
