Israel strikes civilian houses in south Lebanon

Israeli raids and artillery bombardment in south Lebanon on Thursday resulted in damaging several houses of civilians, especially in Zouter East.
The Israeli bombardment also resulted in setting ablaze in al-Tuffah district vast areas of farms and plantations.
Meanwhile, the Lebanese resistance carried out a new resistance operation which targeted the Israeli and its allied South Lebanon Army militia position in al-Shqief castle. Direct hits were achieved.
On Thursday, three members of the SLA militias died, after they were previously wounded in a Lebanese resistance operation carried out at the beginning of last week at Beit Yahoun crossing, at a time when the Israeli government led by Ehud Barak threatened to escalate its attacks against south Lebanon and indicated its intention to evade the promise made by Barak to withdraw from south Lebanon before July, 2000.
On Thursday afternoon, Israeli warplanes launched a new raid on the area located Mleita and Sujoud and fired an air-to-surface missile. Lebanese security sources said the Israeli warplanes were intercepted by the Lebanese army and national resistance anti-aircraft gunfire.
Earlier in the morning, the Israeli warplanes raided Ein al-Samaheyah farm, to the north of Zouter East town. The Lebanese sources said the Israeli warplanes fired air-to-surface missiles against the targeted area and the attack resulted in damaging three houses.
Meanwhile, Israeli Minister of the Interior Shloumo Bin Ami threatened the Lebanese that he would continue and escalate the Israeli attacks unless Lebanese resistance activities against the Israeli occupation army are halted.
Israel Radio quoted the Israeli minister as saying on Wednesday in a meeting he held with the settlers in Kereyat Shemona settlement in the north of Israel that the Israeli government will know what he called the appropriate way to retaliate against sides, which he claimed attack the Israeli settlements.
Bin Ami's statement came following a statement made by the Israeli deputy defense minister on Wednesday that the Israeli army in south Lebanon might not withdraw from south Lebanon during the period previously set by Prime Minister Barak.
For its part, one Lebanese resistance group on Thursday morning attacked the position of the Israeli and SLA forces in al-Shaqief castle in the occupied part of south Lebanon. In a statement, the Lebanese resistance said direct hits were achieved against the position.
Security sources in south Lebanon said three members of the security department in the SLA militia died on Wednesday morning in an Israeli hospital after being seriously wounded as a result of a Lebanese resistance operation which targeted the car of the SLA militia official responsible for the Beit Yahoun crossing, Fawzi al-Saghir, who was killed in the attack. The sources added that the three men were among the bodyguards of al-Saghir.
