US Sixth Fleet leader confirms support for civil reconciliation process

Following his visit to Algeria, Admiral Daniel Murphy, the leader of the US Sixth Fleet, said yesterday that he waits eagerly for the day when cooperation between the US and Algerian maritime forces becomes normal and when the visits of the Sixth Fleet to Algeria do not draw the attention of the media, saying, "We are ready to help the Algerian Army and expand its ability in reaction with the countries of Mediterranean basin."

In press statements following his meeting Tuesday with Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika, Murphy said, "My visits to Algeria come as an expression of the U.S support" for the work of the Algerian leadership to achieve comprehensive national reconciliation, and deepen democracy.

He added that his visit to Algeria coincides with the new changes to set the rules of the civil reconciliation, which is supported by the USA within its concern with enhancing security and stability in North Africa.

"We in Washington trust more in the future of the relation with Algeria," he said, adding that his visit is considered as completion of a visit payed by Javier Solana, the leader of NATO, to Algeria.
