Sudanese president says opposition betray their people
Sudan, Politics, 9/29/1999
Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir strongly criticized the leaders of the Sudanese opposition abroad, in retaliation for their claim of responsibility for exploding a Sudanese oil pipeline.
Al-Bashir accused the opposition of "destroying people's gains." He stressed that his government did not "accept reconciliation and coexistence because it is weak, but in accordance with the directives of the religion (Islamic jurisprudence). He said his government will put an end to "puppets and hirelings."
In a lengthy speech he delivered before a gathering of tens of thousands of people organized by the workers and vocational federations in front of the presidential palace, to express their denunciation of the bombing of the oil pipelines in Sudan, the Sudanese president accused the opposition of "betraying their people."
