Increase in Moroccan seed purchases

Idris El-Esawi, the spokesman of the Moroccan Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Maritime Fishery, said yesterday that his country bought 1.3 million tons of seeds from the international market, including half a million tons of soft wheat from 1st of June till mid of current September.

The purchase season starts from June 1 till end of May.

Al-Esawi said "the total purchasings reached 1.3 million tons among which are million tons were delivered in Morocco's main harbors and that the rest quantities will be soon delivered."

He also added 'that 64% of the total purchasings were contracted by the private sector while the rest percentage through international bids raised by the national office for seeds and that nearly 32% of the total purchasings came from USA and 30% from France while 10% from Canada.
