Report: Israeli FM confers with Malaysian, Moroccan counterparts
Israel-Morocco-Malaysia, Politics, 9/28/1999
The Israeli daily Yediot Ahronot reported on Monday that a secret meeting was held in New York on Sunday night between Israeli Foreign Minister David Levy and his Malaysian counterpart, Syed Hamid bin Syed Jaafar Albar, on the sidelines of the deliberations of the UN General Assembly.
Israel Radio quoted the paper as saying that Levy and Albar agreed during their 45-minute meeting to set up two working teams that will be in charge of discussing possibilities for cooperation between Israel and Malaysia and that the two teams are to work in New York and Washington, due to the fact that there are no diplomatic relations between Israel and Malaysia.
Earlier in the day, Levy met with Moroccan Foreign Minister Muhammad Benaissa in New York. The Moroccan minister expressed Morocco's readiness to promote the Middle East peace process.
