Morocco attends WB-IMF annual meetings in Washington

Moroccan Economy and Finance Minister Fathallah Oualalou flew over the weekend to Washington to attend the annual meetings of the World Bank (WB) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

Oualalou will also attend in the US Federal capital the 60th fall session of the Development Committee, in charge of transferring real resources to developing countries.

The Committee, which is a joint WB-IMF ministerial body, will study an initiative related to the alleviation of low-revenue countries, the adequation of the WB's group and the consolidation of the international financial structure.

During his stay in Washington, Oualalou will hold talks with WB and IMF officials on relations between the Bretton Woods institutions and Morocco.

He will also confer with finance ministers and heads of delegations of certain countries attending the assemblies, including Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Sweden, France, the USA, Italy and Portugal.

Talks will focus on means to intensify and enlarge bilateral cooperation between these countries and Morocco, mainly through the development of partnership ties, debt swapping and the involvement of the foreign private sector in economic activities in Morocco.
