Three Jordanian journalists presented to disciplinary council for visit to Israel
Jordan, Politics, 9/27/1999

The council of the Jordanian Journalists' Union decided to present three of the Union's members to a disciplinary council to punish them for their visit to Israel.

The journalists -- Abdu Allah Hassant, Sultant Hattab and Jihad El-Momeni -- visited Israel at the beginning of current month, where they participated in a conference for normalization between the Arabs and Israel and met with Israeli Foreign Minister David Levy.

The penalty of violating the decision of the Journalists' Union on non-normalization with Israel varies between suspension of work and dismissal from the union's members.

Although Jordan is tied with Israel by a peace treaty, the Jordanian vocational organizations strongly ban normalization for their members.
