Relations between Sudan and Britain
Sudan-UK, Politics, 9/27/1999
Sudanese Foreign Minister Mustafa Othman Ismael has welcomed the restoration of natural and diplomatic relations between Sudan and Britain and described these relations as very important to the two countries.
In an interviewed with the BBC broadcast on Sunday the Sudanese FM added that he had an agreement with British Foreign Secretary Robin Cook, with whom he met in New York on Saturday on the sideline of meetings of the UN General Assembly, to open a new page in the relations between the two countries as well as to restore relations to normalcy in all areas.
The Sudanese minister indicated that Sudan "is not concerned with receiving the US envoy to Sudan or dealing with him as the objectives of this visit were set and determined without making consultations with the countries he will visit and topics he will debate."
He described the way this envoy was appointed as a violation of the UN charter and the rule organizing relations among states. He elaborated that topics assigned to the US envoy to discuss are issues related to the UN committees' area of activity.
