On the results of the Yemeni elections
Yemen, Politics, 9/27/1999

The secretary of the central committee of the opposition Yemeni Socialist Party, Jarallah Omar, who is also a member of the party's political bureau has described the elections took part in Yemen last Thursday " as a play which was not performed properly."

In a statement to the London-based al-Hayat daily issued on Sunday Omar added that his party has circulated publications urging the Yemenis to abstain from voting.

He added that members of the two parties of the General People's Congress and Tajamu al-Islah did not vote with all their members. He said President Saleh chose his rival, Najib Qahtan al-Shaabi, who did not even "vote for himself."
