Morocco 2000 exhibition in London officially launched
Morocco-UK, Business, 9/25/1999
The exhibition, "Morocco 2000, a new partnership for trade, investments and joint ventures," to be held next January 23-25 in London, was officially launched Friday in Rabat.
Speaking at a presentation ceremony, British Ambassador to Morocco, Antony Layden, stressed UK's determination to contribute to the consolidation of economic and commercial ties with Morocco.
He recalled that some 50 British firms are currently operating in Morocco, providing jobs for nearly 20,000 people. He noted that trade exchanges between the two kingdoms are worth more than $ 1 billion.
"We can do more," he said, deploring the lack of knowledge on the part of the British investors as to Morocco's potentials. Such a lack of knowledge, he said, is one of the obstacles hindering the development of British investments in the North African nation.
Layden commented that "Morocco 2000 is exactly the sort of events needed to dramatically increase the benefit the UK and Morocco derive from the relationship with each other in many fields."
The organizers (The Exhibition Company ltd) and their Moroccan advisers (EMTIDA) are confident that a high level delegation of Moroccan personalities will visit Morocco 2000 to discuss ways and means of consolidating trade and investments between UK and Morocco.
