Islamic national conference denounces arrest of Hamas leaders
Regional-Jordan, Politics, 9/25/1999
The Islamic National Conference held in Beirut on Friday denounced the detention of two senior officials in the Hamas leadership who returned to their homeland, Jordan, including a member of the follow-up committee of the Islamic national conference, Khaled Mashaal.
In a statement circulated by fax on Friday in Beirut, the conference urged Jordan's King Abdullah II to intervene to put an end to these measures, which are damaging to the Arab states and to release Khaled Mashaal and Ibrahim Ghoushe and those who work in Hamas who were arrested by the Jordanian authorities.
The statement said that members of the Islamic national conference feel disappointed and regret the persistence of the Jordanian government in proceeding with measures that serve only the interest of the enemies of the Arab states and defame Jordan's reputation on the internal and external levels.
