Ocalan urges reconciliation with the Turkish system
Regional-Turkey, Politics, 9/25/1999

The leader of the Kurdish Workers Party (PKK), Abdullah Ocalan, urged his followers to send of their armed people to the Turkish lands to surrender there to the Turkish army to prove the party's seriousness and its intention to throw down their weapons, call for peace and end the armed conflict.

He expressed his hope that this would be a symbolic step on the way to a democratic solution for the Kurdish issue in Turkey.

His lawyer, Khadega Corcot, handled his demand, saying Ocalan is certain that his party will fulfill demand as it did previously.

This step comes when the Turkish army doubted more that once Ocalan's and his party's seriousness in putting down their weapons, urging them to surrender instead of withdrawal to northern Iraq.
