Jordan, Politics, 9/24/1999
Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister and Information Minister Aymen al-Majali stated today that the decision to arrest Hamas' leaders in Jordan and close the movement's offices is a decision taken by the Jordanian government and that it will "never back off from it."
In statements to the government satellite channel al-Majali said, "The issue of Hamas and its leaders is now up to the Jordanian attorney general," adding that the steps taken by the Jordanian authorities regarding the movement "took place according the decision of the attorney general."
Regarding Hamas political bureau member Mousa Abu Marzouk, al-Majali said, "He was stopped in the airport and was not allowed to get into the Jordanian lands because he does not carry the Jordanian nationality, but he carries a Yemeni passport."
