Oman sees growth in GDP contributions from oil, non-oil sectors

The contribution of the oil and non-oil sectors in Oman rose by 1%, from 2669.1 million in the first six months of 1998 to RO 2695.8 million in the same period this year, Oman News Agency reported.
According to statistics issued by the Omani Ministry of National Economy, revenuse from oil-related activities rose by 4.8% in the first six months of this year from the same period last year from RO 834.5 million in 1998 to RO 874.4 million this year.
It added that Omani industries, mining, energy, power and water supplies and construction showed a 0.9% drop in the same period from RO 1892.7 in 1998 to RO 1875.7 million in 1999.
Over the same period, agriculture and fisheries improved by 4% from RO 81.4 million to RO 84.7 million, while services -- including wholesale and retail trade, hotels, restaurants, transport, storage, communications, financial brokerage, real estates, public administration and other areas -- rose by 0.1% from RO 1548.5 million to RO 1550.7 million, ONA said.
