El-Mahdi adheres to political solution with Sudanese government
Sudan, Politics, 9/23/1999
The former Sudanese prime minister and chief of the opposition Ummah Party, El-Sadeq El-Mahdi, said he would continue his endeavors and communications to reach a political solution that restores stability to the country.
El-Mahdi headed a meeting yesterday for the party's leaders in Cairo to study political stances and military developments, where they issued a political statement yesterday that assured the party's desire to continue for efforts to reach a peaceful solution to the Sudanese problem.
The statement tackled the party's stance regarding exploding the petroleum pipeline in northern Sudan.
The spokesman of the party, Hassan Ahmed El-Hasan, said that the joint military leadership of the Democratic National Alliance announced its responsibility for this operation, and, "We are committed with an agreement of the leadership front in Asmara in last June after unifying the military work."
