Hamas leaders arrested
Jordan, Politics, 9/22/1999
Three Hamas leaders were detained in Amman upon arrival to the airport with Mousa Abu Marzouk being redirected to Yemen because he holds a Yemeni passport. Khaled Mashaal and Ibrahim Ghosheh were arrested.
This comes after threats by the government to do so if the leaders returned from Iran where they were visiting.
ArabicNews.com has learned that an official in the Jordanian Muslim Brothers called for solving the crisis between four wanted Hamas leaders and the Jordanian government.
The factional organization sought to meet with King Abdullah Bin Hussein, who is outside the country, while Jordanian Premier Abdol Raouf al-Rawabdeh threatened to arrest those involved.
