Acts of violence continue in Somalia

Some 36 persons were killed and another 65 wounded in separate clashes between warring groups in southern Somalia.

Eyewitnesses said that confrontations took place on Monday between militia members in Kesmayu port in which anti-aircraft artillery were used and resulted in killing 27 persons and wounding 45, as well as destroying the main telecommunications center.

Simultaneously, nine persons were killed and 20 wounded in other confrontations that erupted between tribal groups in Abjal in Balad town, 30 km north of Mogadishu.

Meanwhile, the UN has decided to halt all its activities in southern Somalia for at least five days to ensure the security of the humanitarian relief employees.
