Ministerial meeting between Algeria, EU
Algeria-European Union, Politics, 9/22/1999
It was announced on Tuesday in Brussels that a ministerial meeting between the European Union and Algeria will be held on November 23 in Algiers. It is the first meeting of its kind.
AFP said the European Union, whose presidency is currently held by Finland, commended in a statement the results of the referendum carried out in Algiers concerning the national reconciliation law and expressed its hope that Algeria will be finally relieved from the circle of violence which lasted for several years.
The EU stressed the importance of continuing the political dialogue already started in Algeria. It also asserted its readiness to back reforms in Algeria, especially in the framework of Euro-Mediterranean cooperation and resuming the special negotiations on signing a partnership agreement between the European Union and Algeria, suspended since 1997.
