International Atomic Energy Agency supports Mubarak's initiative to free Middle East from weapons of mass destruction
Regional-Egypt, Politics, 9/21/1999

Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak's call for a region free from weapons of mass destruction is receiving wide support.

Mustafa El-Fikey, the Egyptian ambassador to Austria and head of the Egyptian delegation to the meetings of the International Atomic Energy Agency, said, "All the countries members in the agency support Mubarak's initiative for making the Middle East, free area from all the weapons of mass destruction, as these countries respect the Egyptian point of view and consult Egypt out of the Egyptian role, which is central as a leader in Africa, the Middle East and the Arab world."

During a telephone conversation with Sawt El-Arab radio from Vienna, El-Fikey said that Egypt will call for giving African and Asian states an effective role on the governors council of the IAEA.
