Al-Sharaa meets with Arab, foreign counterparts in New York

Syrian Foreign Minister Farouk al-Sharaa met on Monday afternoon in New York, where he is taking part in the United Nations General Assembly annual meetings, with Greek Foreign Minister Yeoryios Papandoniou. The two ministers discussed development pertaining to the Middle East peace process and bilateral relations between Syria and Greece.

Al-Sharaa also met with the ambassador of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK, North Korea) in Damascus, and discussions dealt with the situation in the Middle East, bilateral relations and the conditions in the Korean peninsula.

Earlier in the day, al-Sharaa met with Cypriot Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulide, and the two ministers reviewed current situations in the region and efforts being made to revive the Middle East peace process and to settle the Cypriot crisis. Bilateral relations were also discussed.

Meeting with Holland's foreign minister, Jozias van Aartsen, al-Sharaa reviewed the latest developments concerning the Middle East peace process and the role played by the EU in reviving them.

The two ministers agreed to follow up on contacts between Syria and Holland.

Al-Sharaa arrived on Sunday evening in New York, leading the Syrian delegation to the 54th session of the UN General Assembly.
