Hamas accuses Jordanian government of escalating the crisis
Jordan, Politics, 9/20/1999

The Hamas movement issued a statement yesterday in which it replied to the most recent Jordanian statement regarding the closure of Hamas' offices in the Jordanian capital, Amman.

The statement said that the Jordanian government is continuing its campaign against Hamas in Jordan, that the government arrested all the persons in the movement's offices when it entered them, that the government has closed these offices as well as confiscating all their contents, and that the government pursued members of the movement and their relatives.

"In spite of the wide factional public protests in the Jordanian, Arabic and Islamic street, the Jordanian government still pushes the crisis toward more tensions," the statement said.

The statement also said, "This campaign comes for settling the Palestinian stance for Israel's good through weakening the resistance at a time when final status negotiations are taking place."
