Mubarak says son not involved in politics
Egypt, Politics, 9/20/1999
Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak has denied that his son Gamal is seeking to acquire any political job or seeking to work in politics at the present. In an interview published by the Egyptian weekly October on Sunday, the Egyptian President said, "Gamal does not think of engaging in political work. He is only interested in taking part in social and cultural activities."
He indicated that inspection is always continuous, asked everyone who has evidence against any official to submit it to the court and stressed the fairness and justness of the Egyptian judicial system.
Mubarak said he is hardly influenced by rumors and evaluate for himself the performance of each and every minister or senior official.
Replying to a question on possibility of change at the ministerial level, he refused to reveal any names of candidates for high posts but said that he is still considering calmly and objectively the names he has on his mind, an official statement quoted him as saying.
On people's talk of corruption and graft, deviation and illicit and snowballing of wealth by some, President Mubarak said that he was against any of these activities. "Law should be applied equally to all without exception or reluctance," he emphasized.
"We are a state of institutions, where probity and integrity of the Egyptian justice is unquestionable. Our justice is receiving praise, admiration and respect from the four corners of the world," he added.
On reports that major banks will be privatized, President Mubarak said all these news are nothing but mere rumors. He belied reports claiming that the Suez canal will be floated for sale. "These are weird reports bare of truth," the President said.
