US: Negotiations have been intensifying on Iraq
Iraq-USA, Politics, 9/17/1999
Negotiations have been intensifying in hopes of getting the resolution needed to allow UN officials to return to Iraq for arms inspection and monitoring. "The ongoing stalemate situation in Iraq is one that is very discomforting in general," Burleigh said on Thursday. The United States is "very uncomfortable with the lack of arms control on the ground in Iraq," said Burleigh, who is currently the deputy U.S. representative to the U.N. and led the U.S. delegation for a year until the recent arrival of chief envoy Ambassador Richard Holbrooke.
