Egypt, Culture, 9/17/1999
Preparation for an international symposium for the sunken antiquities in Alexandria is currently taking place in association with Egypt's Supreme Council for Antiquities and UNESCO, in which a group of international experts including nearly 40 researchers from 15 countries are participating.
The symposium which will be convened on October 2 - 3 will discuss some of the research and studies presented regarding the results of the archeological mission's work to discover the sunken antiquities in Alexandria in the last 15 years, in which more than eight English, French, American and Italian missions have participated.
The participants in the symposium will make field visits to the archeological discovery works in Qaitbai Castle's areas, where discovery works for Queen Cleopatra's palace and the ancient archeologies of Alexandria are taking place, as well as in Abu Qeer Gulf, where the French missions are excavating Napoleon's fleet, sunken in the Mediterranean Sea since the French campaign on Egypt in 1798.
