World Bank launches HIV/AIDS control plan
Regional-Africa, Health, 9/16/1999

The World Bank has launched lately a HIV/AIDS control to contain the alarming devastation of AIDS in Africa.

The bank launched the plan in partnership with African governments and UNAIDS at the ongoing international conference on AIDS and Sexually Transmitted Diseases in Africa.

The goal of the partnership, which also involves other international and bilateral organizations, is to urgently mobilize nations and civil societies to redirect and expand national and international political programmes and financial policies and resources to address the HIV/AIDS epidemic and its impact on development in Africa.

The partnership would pursue three major objectives through a series of actions that would include reduction of HIV transmission by 25% in the 15-24 year age bracket in the most affected countries.
