More victims of floods in Sudan
Sudan, Politics, 9/16/1999

The Sudanese dailies said on Wednesday that the floods resulted in making more than 50,000 persons homeless and cutting of electricity, water, and telephone lines in Danqala town in northern Sudan.

The Sudanese daily al-Sahafa quoted the flood-fighting committee as warning against the spread of infectious diseases as a result of the pollution of potable water by water from the drainage system and called for providing donations of foodstuffs, medicines, tents, and potable water.

Sudanese airlines' planes had transported foodstuffs and other aid at a cost of 50 million Sudanese genie to Danqala, 450 km north of Khartoum and inhabited by 150,000 persons.

Meanwhile, the Sudanese daily al-Rai al-Akhar quoted the chairman of the higher committee for fighting floods, Ezz eddine Ibrahim, as saying that the damage inflicted on the banks of the Nile at Danqala was repaired.
