Ashrawi: Disney will not present Jerusalem as Israel's capital
Palestine-Regional-USA, Politics, 9/14/1999
Hanan Ashrawi, a member of the Palestinian Legislative Council, said the Walt Disney Company will not allow Israel to present Jerusalem as its capital in its exhibit in a fair in Florida on the occasion of the new millenium, after the reported inclusion of Jersualem as Israel's capital stirred up Arab anger.
In press statements, she added, "There will be no sign in the fair that Jerusalem is Israel's capital," adding that she learned the company's position from Saudi Arabia's Prince Walid Bin Talal Bin Abdul Aziz, who owns a large share of EuroDisney in Paris, in which the Walt Disney company controls 39% of the shares.
The fair, which will last for 15 months in the Epcott Center, affiliated to Disney, will be opened next month for the new millenium.
The United Arab Emirates' foreign minister and the Arab League member states assembled in Cairo on Sunday threatened to boycott all Disney's products if Jerusalem is presented as Israel's capital in the fair.
Ashrawi said the Arabs will continue their pressure to make sure that Arab Jerusalem will not appear as Israel's capital in the fair.
